In the first two months of 2022, we have lost a few pillars of Indian Music. We have lost a gem of the golden era of the Hindi Music Industry, Lata Mangeshkar, the God of Kathak, Pt. Birju Maharaj, Geetashree Sandhya Mukhopadhyay, and the man who bought disco to India, Bappi Lahiri.

Lata Mangeshkar was one of the most versatile singers in the Indian film industry. She was known for her distinctive voice and a vocal range that extended over more than three octaves. She sang more than 20,000 songs in over 30 languages. She was awarded the 'Bharat Ratna' in 2001. On 6 February 2022, she left for the heavenly abode resulting due to Multiple Organ Failures.

Pt Birju Maharaj was an Indian dancer, composer, singer, and exponent of the Lucknow Gharana of Kathak dance in India. He made noteworthy progress in every field he ventured and explored. His death due to a cardiac arrest on 17 January 2022 left a void within all of us.

Geetashree Sandhya Mukhopadhyay was an eminent singer who sang in both Hindi and Bengali Language. Who does not remember her famous duets with Hemanta Mukhopadhyay. She was one of the vocal legends of the Golden era of Bengali Films. Her clear, fluid, and transparent voice texture made a unique mark for her in the Musical world. She passed away at a respectable age of 90 following a cardiac arrest. Her demise marks the end of an era in the MUsic world.

Bappi Lahiri, was a revered Singer, Music director, and producer. He popularised the use of synthesized disco music in Indian cinema. He successfully delivered major Box office hits. His refreshing, vibrant, and rhythmic music had the entire nation dancing for decades, and even today, they are no less enjoyable.
